26.08.05 | A combination of a computer tomograph (CT) and an angiography system makes it possible to examine emergency patients and stroke victims faster and more efficiently. Siemens has combined these two imaging processes in the Angio CT Miyabi system. The system consists of a rail-mounted 16-layer Somatom Sensation CT scanner next to an Axiom Artis angiography unit. The Angio CT Miyabi can save valuable time for doctors when making diagnoses. The hybrid system makes it possible to examine patients without having to move them to different beds or examination rooms. Hospitals in Japan and the United States are already using the new solution.

Angiography depicts the blood vessels, and computer tomography provides additional information on organs and bones. This combined information helps doctors to decide on the best surgical approach when treating patients injured in accidents. Patients with critical injuries are difficult to transport when they are connected to several monitoring devices and systems providing nourishment, blood, saline solutions and other needs. This is where Angio CT Miyabi makes examinations much easier. The 16-layer CT scanner is shifted into the angiography room as needed. In less than one minute, the CT gantry moves into the working position and scans the patient.

And the system also saves precious minutes for stroke patients: It can produce a complete study of the blood vessels in the brain. If a catheter must be inserted, the angiography system can be used to immediately generate a control image. Physicians already working with Angio CT Miyabi report that the system’s advantages include more efficient work processes, more accurate diagnoses and greater comfort for patients. (IN 2005.08.8)
